ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
Welcome to Lowcountry Psychiatric Associates! Our providers and staff are focused on providing personal, caring and expert assessment and treatment. Our practice provides comprehensive outpatient services for a wide variety of mental health issues including individual, family, and group psychotherapy, along with comprehensive psychological evaluations. Our practice is experienced in working with physicians, legal professionals, non-profit organizations, state agencies and inpatient facilities. Each professional has a special experience and training which allows our group to provide expert assistance for a wide variety of situations.
Our practice has 2 locations to make it more convenient for all of our patients. Our providers are pleased to have a comprehensive psychiatric practice that will allow us to care for our patients in the Lowcountry for many years to come.
- The Bluffton location is easily accessible to many Lowcountry communities including Bluffton, Hardeeville, Ridgeland, and Beaufort, S.C. It is also convenient to Sun City and Savannah, Ga.
- The Hilton Head location at Shelter Cove provides closer access to our patients who live and/or work on Hilton Head Island.
**Both offices are handicapped equipped and easily accessible.
Dr. Joseph Walters and Dr. Richard Ford are licensed medical physicians (MD) practicing general psychiatry and both completed their Doctorate of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The scope of their practice includes but is not limited to a broad range of anxiety, mood, substance use, psychotic, family/relationship, and geriatric/memory disorders. Treatment approaches are case-dependent, but can include medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination thereof.
Services provided to you by Richard Ford, M.D. and Joseph Walters, M.D. are private fee for services. They do not accept any insurance or file insurance claims. Elimination of insurance obligations has allowed these two providers to provide high-quality services that are tailored to your personal needs, not insurance company demands. Therefore, you will need to pay out-of-pocket at the time of service. Payment is due in full at the time of service and payments need to be made payable to your physician. However, we will provide the necessary paperwork for you to file your insurance, upon request.
Joseph Walters, III, M.D.
Dr. Walters completed his residency in general psychiatry at M.U.S.C. and has been in private practice on Hilton Head Island since 2006. He is an associate physician at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Richard Ford, M.D.
Dr. Ford completed his residency in general psychiatry at the University of Florida and completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of California-Davis.
Suzanne Veilleux, Ph.D., J.D.
Dr. Veilleux received a B.A. in Psychology from McGill University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Concordia University in Montréal, Québec. In 1980, she obtained a doctorate in Psychology from Yale University and in 1984 she graduated from Yale Law School. Before she dedicated herself to her private practice in Psychology in Québec from 1995 until her relocation to the USA a few years ago, she practiced Law in New York City for some years. In the fall of 2012, she joined Lowcountry Psychiatric Associates as a SC licensed psychologist.
Dr. Veilleux’ therapeutic orientation is eclectic, adapting to the needs of each individual. She
is experienced in psychodynamic, humanistic and existential approaches to psychotherapy and
psychological counseling, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy,
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness Therapy. She is also skilled in
Financial Psychotherapy and Inner Child Analytical Psychotherapy.
Dr. Veilleux specializes in helping people connect with their innate wisdom and emotional
intelligence to discover within themselves the means to reach more integrated, satisfying and
productive lives. She addresses issues of stress related to money, life transitions, jobs and
careers, and the management of difficult feelings such as shame, guilt, loneliness, anger, and
fear. She focuses her work on older teenagers, adults (individuals and couples), and seniors
who suffer from depression, anxiety, loss or grief, relationship conflicts, emotional adjustment,
and from conditions related to mood, personality and thinking. As a Financial Psychotherapist,
she helps individuals, particularly traders and investors, and couples understand the emotional,
motivational, spiritual, and interpersonal dimensions of their relationships with money so that
they can reduce financial pressures on their life and gain psychological freedom in relation to
For over 20 years, Dr. Veilleux has gained, from investigations based on her spiritual journey,
the ability and knowledge to help individuals for whom spirituality, religious beliefs, and faith
are important aspects of their personal growth and healing process, as well as people who do not
have such beliefs and those who have been wounded by members of organized religions.

Marianne Osentoski, Ph.D.
Dr. Marianne Osentoski graduated from University of Toledo with a doctorate in School and Counseling Psychology. Although she is moving here from Michigan, she was born and raised in Atlanta and has practiced for a time in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr Osentoski has extensive experience in couple's and family therapy, having trained in Rome, Italy with top mental health experts. She has practiced in the field of psychotherapy for twenty-eight years. Her broad interests include: difficulties in life transitions that occur during developmental stages , such as retirement, empty nest, and death of a loved one. Dr. Osentoski has also had the opportunity to specialize in depression, anxiety, complicated grief, and substance abuse. Having been an exceptional athlete herself in high school and college, Dr. Osentoski has worked with athletes in optimizing athletic performance. Within her practice in Michigan, Dr. Osentoski worked intensely with civil servants and first responders.

Vicki Bonnell, LISW-CP
